This time of year I am once again reminded of my great fortune of so many great friends, family, fantastic people to work with at Sizzleworks. So, in lieu of inviting you all over for cocktails, I am sending the cocktail to you! Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year, Happy holidays to all!
This recipe was born at the most recent Treveri Sparkles dinner. I had paired the gelato with Treveri’s Sparkling Riesling. Juergen, the winemaker, was astounded at the match, and we decided to try combining the two, to make an even more memorable holiday drink. Here’s to Treveri Cellars!
- 1 scoop lime gelato (recipe follows), or lime sherbet
- 6 ounces sparkling white wine (we use Treveri Riesling here)
Place a scoop of gelato into a tall flute, pour bubbly over all. ENJOY!!!
- 1 medium lemon
- 4 limes
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 1/2 cups COLD whipping cream (or 1 1/4 cups buttermilk + 1 1/4 cups cream)
- dash of salt
- 2-3 tablespoons lime vodka, optional
for serving as a separate dessert:
- 1 lime, sliced into 6 wedges
- honey, for drizzling
- sea salt
Zest 2 of the limes. Add to the juice of all four limes plus juice of one lemon. Stir in the sugar, then the cream and salt. Add lime vodka if using. Chill at least 4 hours. Freeze in ice cream freezer.
Scoop into ice cream dishes. Squeeze lime juice over, drizzle with honey, sprinkle with sea salt.
Makes 6 to 8 servings.
